  WHAT ROBERTO OLABE SAID

  Real Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe has expressed his confidence in retaining Zubimendi in January. Speaking to Estadio Deportivo, Olabe stated: “Zubimendi has a release clause, yes… but it’s always the player to decide and he’s been showing how committed he is to our project. So far, we’ve seen how he has behaved and I don’t predict any ‘scares’ in January for Zubimendi to leave”.

  It had been reported that the midfielder’s current contract includes a €60 million (£50.1 million) release clause.

  During the summer transfer window, Liverpool identified Zubimendi as a prime target, with manager Arne Slot keen on securing his services to strengthen the midfield.
